Smart campaign: City of Mönchengladbach launches smartcity.mg

For its Smartcity campaign, the city of Mönchengladbach wanted an independent UX concept and visual design, but not a new CMS project... Intentive implemented this with the existing TYPO3 instance, so that the campaign site and moenchengladbach.de mutually benefit from synergies.

Mönchengladbach is one of 32 cities taking part in the BMI's model project for digital urban development. As part of the project marketing, the results are to be communicated in a citizen-oriented and intuitive way. These requirements naturally also apply to the city's website moenchengladbach.de, but an independent, eye-catching design language that fits the theme should be used for the pioneering model project.

The Challenge

The proven TYPO3 CMS was to be used as the basis for the campaign website in order to take advantage of the resulting benefits in terms of website operation and maintenance, editor training and content reuse.

The city administration also wanted to create synergies in the TYPO3 templates and content modules developed as part of the campaign so that they could be used on moenchengladbach.de in the future.

Our approach

In close coordination with the city administration and clevebrück - Büro für Gestaltung, the agency commissioned with the campaign concept, we adapted and further developed the UX & visual design developed for smartcity.mg as an independent area below moenchengladbach.de.

The focus was also on clean integration into the existing municipal website project without visual or technical breaks.

The Solution

Visually independent and technically fully integrated - that is the result of smartcity.mg. The campaign site benefits from an existing, high-performance technical platform: existing features of moenchengladbach.de, such as on-site search, Readspeaker integration or a low-barrier, responsive code are simply used without additional effort.

The municipal site in turn benefits from newly developed components such as timelines or blog posts, which are not only available in the campaign, but now also for editorial contributions on moenchengladbach.de... very smart, we think!
